Education Programs at Norrie Point

A wide range of education programs are offered by the Norrie Point Environmental Center, located in Staatsburg NY, through a partnership between the Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve, the Hudson River Estuary Program, and Cornell WRI. School groups from middle school and above can sign up for field programs that include seining for fish, testing water quality, and canoeing the local marsh. Monthly public programs for all audiences include fishing the river and nature walks on forest trails. Our annual “Science on the River” event is a family-friendly open house of science and river activities held each autumn. The Center also schedules public and school-group canoe programs at several Reserve sites in the Hudson Valley. Teachers can also connect with Reserve educators without leaving the classroom via distance learning programs and videoconferencing.

The Hudson River Research Reserve promotes estuary habitat protection and resilience through research, education, and decision-maker trainings throughout the year.
